Clare Szydlowski was our cover artist for our Spring 2015 issue. Clare quickly became close friends with many of the people behind Venison and started writing for our quarterlies in 2016. We are so excited to watch Clare's career grow and have her join us for our first group art exhibition!
My work in printmaking, alternative process photography and cut paper is concerned with the ways in which industrial processes, theories and terminology have shaped the North American landscape; both the physical world and the collective imagination.
Visually I am drawn to spaces that expose American dreams, desires, and hopes: industrial ruins, oversize discount stores, suburban developments, freeways–the hinterlands of American life. I photograph these spaces and rework the images, symbols and text I find through printmaking, digital drawing tools and paper sculpture. By rearranging and isolating these pervasive and seemly mundane images, I allow the viewer to question their assumptions about familiar spaces and recognize the strangeness of a landscape characterized by industrial dreams and boundless resources .
Come Meet the Artist!
Clare Szydlowski will be in attendance on July 15th for our opening Reception. Clare will also be giving an artist talk on August 12th at Abrams Claghorn gallery!
Our Venison team uses this blog page to post short articles about events, projects, journeys, and art adventures that we find relevant to the contemporary lives of fellow artists.
